It’s December 15th, which means ten days until Christmas (it also means Psych: the Musical is on tonight at 9pm on the USA Network, but that’s a whole different kind of cheese and I digress) so shopping for that cheese lover just kicked in to overdrive. Have no fear, because The House Mouse is here with Cheesy Gift Guide #3 which has some pretty cool gadgets. As most readers know, I prefer to shop local, keeping dollars within the community, however time is of the essence so I will be including prices and links here to sites that have expedited shipping, although I make no promises for holiday miracles. Should timing become an issue, I suggest a House Mouse tradition of placing a picture of the gift inside a box and then putting that box inside another box and so on and so on and so on. Include a note letting the recipient know their gift is en route to their home, which may be appreciated even more if the gadget is particularly large or heavy. And away we go!

Cheesy Etsy Find No. 1

1 Cheese Slicer made by blacksmith. Hand forged in USA. Great wedding gift or dinner party gift.
Hello. My name is Robin and I am an Etsy Addict. I am completely obsessed with this online art-fest/garage sale/flea market/art lover’s Nirvana. Never heard of Etsy before? Allow me to enlighten you, and remember, the first taste is free. Etsy.com is an website where artists from all over post their wares and sell them. Touted as the “World’s most vibrant handmade marketplace,” one can find anything from wire-wrapped resin pendants to tables with unfinished trees for bases. Either browse at random or type in a keyword for what interests you. One of my favorite keywords is “cheese”… obviously. I have found some pretty cool, interesting, and sometimes disturbing items available on Etsy having to do with cheese, so I thought I would share a new one with you periodically.
This week, we’ll start off simple and elegant with a hand-forged cheese slicer from WatkinsForge. Blacksmith Jason Watkins of Hattiesburg, MS has created this beautiful slicer from twisted steel and then finished it with beeswax. I love how simple, yet interesting the bow-shaped handle is, and the substantial wire looks sturdy enough to slice even the densest of cheeses, like Roomano or an aged Gouda.
Check out the rest of Mr. Watkins’ wares here and check back next week for another Cheesy Etsy Find!
Stay Cheesy!
